Every Droplet Visible — CMT Welding at 480 fps
A vertical high-speed short from the Therness PoolDrop Cam: each droplet detaching in a Cold Metal Transfer arc, with the molten weld pool and its solidification front resolved frame by frame and arc glare filtered out.
Cold Metal Transfer cycles an arc phase and a controlled short circuit hundreds of times a second, far beyond what a 30/60 fps camera can resolve. Filmed at 480 fps, this short makes every droplet detachment and the advance of the solidification front directly visible — the visual ground truth welding engineers use to tune droplet transfer and bead geometry.
What you see
- Each droplet detaching from the wire in the CMT cycle, at 480 fps.
- The molten pool and its solidification front, arc glare filtered out.
- How interval parameters change droplet transfer and bead shape.
- Reference footage for parameter optimization and PQR records.
Captured with Therness
- PoolDrop Cam mounts torch-side and films Full HD up to 480 fps.
- Integrated laser-safe lighting suppresses arc glare without extra optics.
- USB 3.0 into any HeatCore server — visual and thermal in one record.
- Frame-accurate evidence for ISO 17637 visual testing and root-cause analysis.
