See inside the weld, in the classroom
For welding schools and training centres. While welding, the student sees on screen the weld pool that arc glare hides. The teacher measures the parameters of every test weld, reviews it with the student and corrects it.
Therness, a Politecnico di Torino spin-off: we see the weld as it forms. Our camera helps both the learner and the teacher.
Learner and teacher watch the same weld
The learner
While welding, the student sees on screen what arc glare hides. They move the torch and see straight away what changes in the weld pool.
The teacher
The teacher reviews the pass with the student, in slow motion, and corrects it there, together. Next to the images are the numbers of the test weld: voltage, current, wire and gas. Every mistake becomes a lesson for the whole class.
Behind every bead there is a movement. Now you can see it.
A camera to see, a recorder to measure
PoolDrop: the weld pool on screen
Films the weld pool at up to 480 frames per second, with Class 1 laser-safe lighting that suppresses arc glare. Every pass can be reviewed frame by frame. PoolDrop product page.
WeldTrace: the parameters of every test weld
Records voltage, current and wire feed speed at 25 kHz and gas flow at 10 Hz on every pass: the values actually delivered, aligned with the images of the same pass. Runs in a browser. WeldTrace product page.

Questions from schools
Is PoolDrop a thermal camera?
No. PoolDrop is a high-speed visible-light camera: it films the weld pool and the area around it at up to 480 frames per second, with Class 1 laser lighting that suppresses arc glare. It shows the shape and movement of the pool, not its temperature.
What does WeldTrace record?
Voltage, current and wire feed speed together at 25 kHz, and shielding gas flow at 10 Hz, on every pass. These are the values the welding equipment actually delivered, not the ones it was set to, and they stay recorded together with the images of the same pass.
Do we need to install software on the school's computers?
No. WeldTrace runs in a browser and connects with a single Ethernet cable that carries power and data. PoolDrop connects over USB 3.0 to the HeatCore server, which records images and parameters.
Are there conditions for schools and training centres?
Yes, dedicated conditions for schools and training centres. Tell us how many welding booths you have when you request the demo: we go through the conditions with you at the demo.
