Custom Thermal Imaging Solutions
Custom and OEM thermal imaging and monitoring solutions: feasibility studies, R&D projects, and engineered integration of thermal cameras, high-speed imaging, and AI analysis for specialized industrial applications.
- Feasibility study before any hardware commitment
- Thermal + high-speed imaging + AI engineered as one system
- Politecnico di Torino spin-off engineering
Custom thermal imaging solutions cover the applications a catalog product does not: a measurement task tied to one part family, a process that needs thermal and high-speed evidence on the same timeline, or a machine builder who needs a thermal channel engineered into their own equipment. Born as a spin-off of Politecnico di Torino and built for the factory floor, Therness approaches each of these as a measurement problem first — grounded in measurement research rather than repackaged machine vision — and only then as a hardware and software project.
What we build
- Custom integration of thermal cameras into machines, cells, and production lines.
- Combined thermal, high-speed imaging, and AI analysis systems for specialized process monitoring.
- Active thermography setups for non-destructive testing of specific parts — stimulated thermographic inspection designed around the component rather than a generic procedure.
- Monitoring stations for process R&D and pilot lines.
- Feasibility studies and proof-of-concept measurement campaigns.
Method
- Application review and definition of the measurement objective.
- Feasibility study on representative parts or historical data.
- Prototype or pilot system with agreed acceptance evidence.
- Validation in the real operating environment.
- Delivery, documentation, training, and support.
A feasibility study can conclude that thermography is not the right method for the application; that answer is part of the deliverable.
Building blocks
Custom systems are built around proven Therness hardware where it fits. The HeatCam IR-C is a cylindrical industrial thermal camera for fixed installations, connecting to plant networks with Power over Ethernet and Modbus over a single cable. The HeatCam IR-S is a compact square LWIR camera built for tight, permanent integration in embedded and multi-sensor setups. Where the application calls for different optics, excitation, acquisition, or analysis, those elements are engineered for the project.
If the need is recurring plant surveys with delivered findings rather than an engineered system, see our industrial thermography inspection services.
Deliverables
- Feasibility report with measured detectability and stated limits.
- Prototype or pilot measurement system.
- Integration and interface documentation.
- Operator training and handover.
- Support and iteration plan.
Who this is for
- Machine builders and OEMs that need an embedded thermal channel in their own equipment.
- R&D and process engineering teams that need thermal evidence on a specific process question.
- NDT teams with a part-specific inspection problem that a standard setup does not solve.
- Plants whose application falls outside the scope of a standard survey route.
