Weld pool at 480 fps, thermal image and welding current, recorded during the same bead
In our R&D cell we record thermal images, high-speed weld-pool video and welding current together. This clip shows the three recordings of one bead, played at 0.1x, then 0.025x.
A camera shows what the weld pool did, a thermal image shows where the heat went, and a current trace shows
what the welding power source delivered. The three recordings in this clip were recorded during the same bead,
each by its own sensor at its own native rate.
What you see
- The weld pool filmed at 480 fps by the PoolDrop high-speed camera.
- The temperature field recorded at 25 fps by the HeatCam thermal camera.
- The welding current sampled at 25 kHz by WeldTrace.
- Slow-motion playback at 0.1x, then 0.025x, of a controlled short-circuit cycle.
How it was recorded
- Real footage from a robotic R&D cell.
- Three sensors, recorded during the same bead.
- No generated or interpolated frames.
- Each sensor at its own native rate: 480 fps, 25 fps and 25 kHz.
Where the recordings come from
The visual and thermal views come from the PoolDrop and HeatCam welding cameras; the current trace comes from WeldTrace welding parameter monitoring.
