How thermal imaging works for weld monitoring
During welding, heat flows from the arc into the joint and surrounding material. Thermal cameras measure this heat distribution in real time. By analyzing peak temperatures, cooling rates, and heat patterns along the bead, we can infer penetration, detect lack of fusion or burn-through, and spot process instability before defects occur.
Consistent, symmetrical thermal profiles typically indicate stable parameters and strong fusion. Irregular or asymmetric profiles can point to gaps, contamination, or poor parameter control.
